TO HOUSE CONCERT INFORMATION Neil Strauss' NY Times Article on House Concerts

As an artist devoted to creating worlds of new sound in your project studio you may not have considered performing for a live audience. Or you may have considered it, but always been hesitant to do so based on your own past experiences playing for people in bars who are not really there to hear you play. There is one way of presenting your music to an audience there just for you, and that is by performing at House Concerts. Normally, house concerts are played before a small but devoted audience in a host's home. Depending on the size of the room, artists can expect anywhere from just a few people to dozens coming to hear their music. The upside is, obviously, that you have people coming to hear you play. But you might also consider that this format of performance is truly unlimited in what you might present to a new audience. House Concerts have traditionally been set up for folk or solo performers, but we suggest you expand your ideas to many more possibilities. Our intent is to help promote the continuing growth of home recording. We believe house concerts offer many possibilities for home recording artists to begin sharing their creativity with an audience outside the normal realm of tape/mp3 trading and mail collaboration. As publishers of the longrunning GAJOOB Magazine, we've developed 1000's of contacts throughout the underground home recording network and through our efforts at promoting sales of homemade music here, we believe we can help make hosting small house concerts a successful activity for everyone concerned. We have broadsheets filled with content for you to publish in your own area and attract people to new music shows. We can make dedicated sites here at homemademusic.com available for you to not only promote your concerts, but to engage in online ticket sales in addition to sales of music and other merchandise. We can even provide the music and merchandise. And, of course, we can provide you with contacts with artists eager to showcase unique performances perfect for such a setting. Don't expect to find any tried and true blueprints here right away. We expect to learn from the experiences of everyone involved. We consider that to be much of the excitement. |
