TRAIN GOING NOWHERE is the stripped-down, hard rock CD I've wanted to make for years, but wasn't really sure I could. My previous CD, THE SIMPLE CHANCE OF LIFE, began life as a Nirvana-esque grunge fest, but I couldn't resist adding keyboards and sound effects and funny voices until it had mutated beyond recognition. This time I forced myself to write music for a full year, then picked only the songs I could get across with guitar, bass, and drums. There was a practical reason for this as well: I'd recently gotten married and bought a house, and had a son (and later a daughter) on the way, so I knew I'd never have time to create a heavily-ornamented work like GOWER STREET - which proved to be an understatement!! TRAIN consumed 6 years from start to finish, mostly because all overdubs were recorded in professional studios, and I kept running out of money (and I couldn't do anything with the 24-track tapes at home!). At one point I gave up completely, and even considered burning the masters or releasing the half-finished tracks as an ART STATEMENT... but pride, as always, was a powerful motivator, and no bonfires were lit. There are a lot of guests on this CD - in particular, Kevin Fowler (who sang a short tune on TSCOL) sings two lengthy tunes, including a special showcase called THE GRID. Alan Rankin blazes on lead guitar on the title track and SLEPT THRU MY DEATH. Also re-appearing are Terry Rodman, Chris Assells, and Jay Richardson. What most pleases me about this CD is the mastering by Judson Leach - it is an expert, professional job, and the studio-recorded tracks seem to leap out of the speakers. The finished result worked so well that I'm making another CD very much like this one that I hope to release in 2002, but without as many guests and with many less hours in expensive studios.

REVIEWS...

"The guitars come at you thick with crunching riffs to rival Lou Reed with a clean power that pummels out of the speakers like a monster... you gotta hear it, you gotta hear it." --Bryan Baker, Gajoob

"Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know how much I enjoy the new Dino DiMuro release, Train Going Nowhere. This stands out as the finest work by DiMuro to date. The recordings are crisp and clean, and the guitars really bite. Nice production all around. The thing I enjoyed most though, is the songwriting. Dino has really showcased his songwriting abilities on this release, probably more so than any of his previous works. "Monsters in the Night" is a wonderful romp through the trials and tribulations of fatherhood and getting the young ones to go to bed. "The Grid" is such a beautiful progressive-rock song, musically and lyrically that it is begging to be all over radio. My personal favorite is "Talkin' With the Wise Guy." I like the story in within the song, and the melodic guitar lines work well with the story. "Twilight Games" is a great little pop ditty, and "Pablo and Tracy's Acid Party" is an equally cool throwback to 60's psychedelia. The guest performers, and they are numerous, add to the overall depth of the release. This CD is a bargain at the $10.00 asking price. Definitely a keeper." --Wes Johnson
